Students from Mrs. Johnston's Grade 5 class had the opportunity to be stars for a day! Rogers TV field trips give students an authentic, behind-the-scenes look at the world of television.
Check out these pictures from students in 5 Johnston from the first week of school. Every Friday, students from Madame Johnston's class work on various Math Centers involving topics that have been covered over the week. These centers are designed to reinforce mental math skills.
Homework for the week of Monday, September 17th 2012
1. Math - Talk about what one million means to you with a partner or someone at home.
2. Read - 10 -15 minutes. As we will be learning French for the first half of the school year, it is very important to continue reading English books at home. Starting next week, we will be starting a reading log to keep track of books and pages read.
3. Family pictures - in French we are beginning to learn how to talk about our Family members. At the end of the unit, we will be making a family album. The students are asked to bring in some pictures of their immediate family members, any pet(s) they may have as well a picture of an aunt/uncle and one of their cousins. If they do not have access to pictures that is perfectly fine. They may draw pictures of their family members instead. Thank you :)
4. Book Orders - our very first book order is due Friday, September 21st, 2012. As mentioned in Johnston's Journal (September's issue), I do ask that the students bring in only checks to pay for their book orders as this is what is required when mailing the order form to Scholastic. Thanks again!
1. Math - Take a walk around your neighbourhood and make a list (in your agenda) of all the mathematics applications you spot.
2. Read - 10 -15 minutes. As we will be learning French for the first half of the school year, it is very important to continue reading English books at home. Starting next week, we will be starting a reading log to keep track of books and pages read.
3. Letters to sign & return: French letter, Fluoride, Unepexcted Early Closure, Computer Agreement, Media Coverage, & French contract.
On February 10th, we were lucky enough to be able to go Cross Country skiing at Centennial Park. Our first scheduled date was cancelled due to the lack of snow! Students from Madame Johnston's class were very excited and eager to go the second time around. The conditions were phenomenal. It wasn’t too cold & there was just enough snow. Students had a great time!
